Some of Korea’s sporting achievements include hosting the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the Asian Games (1986, 2002 and 2014), the 2003 Summer Universiade (2003, 2015), and now the 2011 IAAF World Championships.
DAEGU
Daegu, also known as Taegu, and officially the Daegu Metropolitan City, is the third largest metropolitan area in South Korea, and by city limits, the fourth largest with over 2.5 million people. The city is located in southeastern Korea about 80 km inside from seacoast, near the Geumho River and its mainstream, Nakdong River in Gyeongsang-do. The city has become one of the major cities of the country and is making efforts to be the center of the fashion and high-tech industries. Due to its status as a cultural center, there are many nicknames for the city including "Apple City", "Beauty City", "Textile City", "Fashion City" and also "Gotham Daegu".
